Track 2 - Davina & The Brit Awards - Feb 2026

Track 2 - Davina & The Brit Awards - Feb 2026

Liner Notes | The Electric Eye Apparel Monthly Blog

Intro

Here's the feelings behind the songs.

The stories behind the stitches.

And the life around Electric Eye Apparel.

February has been one of those surreal, pinch-me chapters. From hearing Davina McCall and Michael Douglas mention me on their Making The Cut podcast, to being asked to create lyric-embroidered t-shirts for Mastercard’s BRITs takeover at the Treehouse Hotel in Manchester, and then somehow finding myself at the BRIT Awards this year. What a bloomin' month February has been…

"I'll Be Your Davina McCall, I'm Coming To Get You"

A woman so bloody lovely that Wet Leg wrote a song about her!

I’ve always been such a fan of Davina, from her Streetmate days, to Big Brother, to her latest podcast where she’s so raw, honest, and shares some incredible stories. I know she’s a huge fan of music too, I actually listened to her Desert Island Discs not so long ago. And I love that you’ll often find Davina and her hubbie Michael dancing in Ibiza and just being fabulous!

She’s also big on supporting small businesses, which makes what happened next feel even more special.

You can imagine my surprise when I started receiving messages from customers saying that Davina and Michael were chatting about my wee brand on their Making The Cut podcast. I couldn’t quite believe it. And it was all thanks to the loveliest recommendation from Fearne Cotton, who has been such a champion of my brand since day one - we absolutely adore her over here!

I listened to the episode in the car with my husband, grinning from ear to ear as they spoke about my range; the quality, the styles they loved - just hearing my little brand mentioned in that way felt huge. They were so incredibly kind!  It was such a confidence boost, and moments like this genuinely mean the world when you’re running a small business on your own.

I probably shouldn't say this - but hearing them talk about my brand, and all that I've build, the quality I'm so passionate about, my sustainability... well, I actually felt a wee bit proud!

Making t-shirts for Mastercard X The Brit Awards 2026

One of the biggest pinch-me moments this month came when I was commissioned to create lyric-embroidered t-shirts for Mastercard’s BRITs takeover at the Treehouse Hotel in Manchester. They discovered my brand and were really keen to work with Manchester-based small businesses, which I just think is incredible — especially with the BRIT Awards bringing such a boost to the city and its creative economy.

It felt like such an exciting opportunity, and together we designed three styles inspired by some of the artists at this year’s BRITs:

‘Watermelon Sugar High’ — in honour of Harry Styles

‘Baby, Where The Hell Is My Husband’ — in honour of Raye

‘I Kinda Like It When You Call Me Wonderful’ — inspired by Olivia Dean and Sam Fender

Olivia Dean was an absolute must — a BRIT School alum and such an incredible talent.

I created 60 shirts for the event, each one stitched by me, then wrapped and carefully packed. It’s always such a good feeling hearing feedback on the quality, and I was genuinely blown away by the response. Opportunities like this mean so much, and it’s already led to some really exciting things behind the scenes.

I also have to say how much I respected the way this opportunity came about. So often, small businesses are asked to provide work in exchange for “exposure”, but that wasn’t the case here at all. They completely respected my prices and the value of what I do. They could easily have gone elsewhere and had something produced more cheaply, but they chose not to and that meant a lot. It felt like a genuine appreciation of the craft and the work that goes into every piece.

Attending The Brit Awards 2026!

And then, as if that wasn’t enough, I was lucky enough to attend the BRIT Awards with my husband Michael and my stepdaughter Bridget. Bridget and I had the best time planning our outfits - I wore a super glam sequin ASOS skirt with a silver metallic embroidered ‘KISS ALL THE TIME’ baby tee (very much inspired by the fabulous Mr. Harry Styles). The skirt made an absolute bloody racket every time I walked, so I was very grateful the music in the arena was loud enough to cover it 😂

Bridget wore a lovely red sequin skirt with an ‘OK, love you, bye’ embroidered tee inspired by her favourite Olivia Dean song, and honestly, sharing that experience with her was so special. We laughed, we sang, we danced and we had an absolute ball.

The show itself was incredible. We were completely blown away by Harry Styles opening with ‘Aperture’, the energy in the arena was unreal!

RAYE’s vocals were a real standout, just phenomenal live.

Olivia Dean was stunning, and seeing her take home awards felt so well deserved, such a moment for her and she gave such a gorgeous performance.

And Noel Gallagher receiving the Songwriter of the Year award was brilliant, I was absolutely spying on the Gallagher table that night!

I was really moved by the touching tribute to Mani, which really brought home that sense of legacy and community in music. Especially as it was in Manchester.

I’ll be honest, for a few years I’ve felt a bit out of touch with the BRITs. But this year completely changed that. It felt fresh, exciting, and genuinely about the music again.

I’m so glad it’s staying in Manchester for the next few years - I can't wait to go again next year!

LOVE STORY.

Anyone else absolutely hooked on Love Story FX?

I feel like it’s filled a Sex And The City shaped hole in my life.

The series, follows the whirlwind romance of John F. Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, charting their relationship against the glare of 90s fame and media obsession ♥️

And I’ve completely fallen down the rabbit hole!!! The 90s nostalgia, the fashion (Carolyn’s effortless slip dresses, those scenes in Calvin Klein, the swishy hair, the red lip, the crisp white shirt, the denim)… it’s all so good.

But for me, the thing that’s really got me is the soundtrack 🎵

Give me a great soundtrack and I’m sold every time. I’m one of those people who gets the warm and fuzzies… proper tingly, hair-standing-on-end moments - when a great soundtrack hits the sweet spot 👌🏼

Music has this bloomin’ magic way of turning moments into memories, and this series absolutely nails that feeling. These songs capture the magic of that moment in time during the 90s… in a way that only music can.

I’ve completely fallen in love with some of these songs all over again, and have been blasting them in my embroidery studio.

Including:

Fade Into You – Mazzy Star

No Ordinary Love – Sade

Linger – The Cranberries

Lover, You Should’ve Come Over – Jeff Buckley

This Woman’s Work – Kate Bush

Secret – Madonna

Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover – Sophie B. Hawkins

No More “I Love You’s” – Annie Lennox

and It Ain’t Over ’Til It’s Over – Lenny Kravitz

Common People – Pulp

Sullen Girl – Fiona Apple

Cannonball – The Breeders

Suzanne – Nina Simone

and Roads – Portishead

90s nostalgia at its absolute best.

Outro...

February has been a bit of a whirlwind - full of moments I’m not sure I’ll ever quite get over. From hearing my name mentioned on a podcast I love, to creating pieces for the BRITs, to dancing in the arena with my family… it’s all felt incredibly special.

And at the heart of it all, as always, is music, the thing that’s shaped so many of my memories and continues to bring everything together.

So I’ll leave you with my playlist for February - the songs that have soundtracked this month, held these moments, and mean a little bit more because of it 🎧
